YouTube has announced that it has removed several videos of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro because they "contain false information about the coronavirus epidemic".

The operators of the portal indicated in their statement issued on Wednesday local time: a thorough investigation preceded the decision, which has nothing to do with Bolsonaro's work or political ideology.

" Our rules do not allow the publication of content that promotes the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine and/or ivermectin in the treatment or prevention of Covid-19, claims that there is a cure for the disease, or that the mask is not effective in preventing the spread of the virus" - YouTube justified the removal of the videos.

Bolsonaro's office has not yet responded to what happened.

Last year, both Twitter and Facebook deleted several videos of the Brazilian president that went against the recommendations of health experts and violated the social media sites' terms of use.

Bolsonaro regularly publishes videos on his YouTube channel, including his speeches to the nation and recordings of him talking to ministers, answering questions from viewers and whipping his opponents. During events that can also be followed on Facebook, the president regularly casts doubt on the seriousness of the coronavirus epidemic, calls travel restrictions and other precautions stupid, questions the effectiveness of vaccines, and promotes cures not recognized by experts, the Reuters news agency recalled.

In Brazil, there are almost 19.5 million infected and 545,604 deaths from the coronavirus, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. The Latin American country has the second highest number of deaths from Covid-19.
