Péter Haumann died on Saturday afternoon at the age of 81, after a long illness he bore with dignity.

Péter Haumann joined the Madách Theater in 1973, where he played many important roles and became the company's leading artist. In 1988, he signed a contract with the National Theater, then with the Arizona Theater, and for one year with the Radnót Theater, from 1994 to 2016 he was a member of the József Katona Theater. After that, he played at the Hungarian Theater in Pest.

The Kossuth Award-winning actor was seen by the audience in such plays as The Defense of Socrates, The Miser, The Broken Jar, The Death of the Agent, The Cage of Mad Women and Cats. He played, among others, in the III. Richárd, in the films Woyzeck, Szenvedély, Szürkület, Indul a bakterház or Kalandorok, and worked with directors such as Ottó Ádám, Tamás Szirtes, Péter Valló, Gábor Zsámbéki, Miklós Jancsó, György Fehér and János Dömölky.

He was awarded the Kossuth Prize in 1985. In 2006, he was awarded the Central Cross with a Star of the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic, in 2009 he received the Prima Primissima award, and in 2010 he was elected actor of the nation.

Péter Haumann was one of the greatest and most loved Hungarian actors.
