A serious situation has developed in the socialist party, as the autumn renewal is approaching, but there is still no presidential candidate. Nobody takes it. According to Magyar Hírlap sources, party director Zsolt Molnár is holding a real casting.

The situation is similar to when they were looking for a new prime minister after the fall of Gyurcsány, and the range went from Lajos Bokros to washing powder agents. The name of the former president, Attila Mesterházy, was also mentioned again, which is not at all compatible with the current leadership.

Bertalan Tóth, one of the co-chairs of the MSZP, announced before the parliamentary election that he would not run for the post of president again, and the other co-chair, Ágnes Kunhalmi, has not yet commented on this. Among the self-candidates, István Ujhelyi, a member of the European Parliament, came forward with the slogan "withered carnation" and even with a new name, with a program for the complete renewal of the party, but he failed in a matter of seconds. (See our box.)

The party membership clearly favored the mayor of Szombathely, András Nemény, who asked for time to think, but our sources have now clearly indicated that he does not wish to give up his position as city manager. Thus, he will certainly not assume the leadership of the party either. Parliament member Tamás Harangozó also offered his services, and our sources claimed that he was considered an even worse candidate than Ujhelyi. They explained that no one supports him except his brother, Gábor Harangozó, who works at the Socialist Institute of Democracy, and former representative Anita Heringes. They also invited István Hiller, the current chairman of the committee, who also thanked him for the opportunity, but did not wish to take advantage of it. On the contrary, we found out, he only asked for a driver and a company car from the party. The request of the former president of the MSZP, currently measured at one percent support, was accepted by the party leadership.
